As part of our BAP project work (SM7) a group of us met up at the old Hordle cemetery on Hordle Ciff. We had previously inspected a hedgerow adjacent to All Saints Church.
The hedges at both locations were found to be tall, largely unmanaged and generally species poor. A characteristic typical across the parish area. Details of our findings were recorded and it proved to be a useful exercise in plant species identification.
We were expertly advised by our guest ecologist Sam Munslow, of the standard techniques adopted nationally to survey hedgerows.
Discussions followed as to how future sympathetic management could greatly enhance these valuable habitats in order to form important wildlife corridors potentially benefiting species such as dormice.
