Birds along Keyhaven Sea Wall

Wednesday September 24th

We kick started our autumn Nature Walks at the end of September with a session along the sea wall from the Keyhaven Observatory towards Lymington

As always, we were greeted by an array of different species – to mention a few of those in the lagoon…..snipes, wimbrels, lapwings, red and green shanks, turnstones and avocets though without our experts with us, we weren’t great on identifying many ducks! But we had fun trying!

We had a great display by the peregrine falcon and kestrel and were blown away by the brightness of the yellow wagtail that was performing up and down the sea wall. A very brief annual visitor!

The highlight of the walk had to be back in the observatory where the kingfisher put on a fantastic fishing display for us on the branch in front of the hide – eventually being joined by his mate as they both flew away!

A lovely end to a very enjoyable walk
