As part of our BAP project work (SM8) a group of us met up on the evening of 15th July. We had received reports from the vicar of All Saints Church that bats maybe occupying the roof space at Vicarage House. In the gathering gloom at least three common pipistrelle bats were observed actively hunting insects in the rear garden of the vicarage, unfortunately there was no evidence of any emerging from the building.
We then relocated to the church cemetery where at least five more pipistrelle bats were observed. Using a bat detector our guest bat expert, Lisa Malter, was able to identify at least one soprano pipistrelle from the different frequency of its echo location call compared with that of the common.
