Birds at Normandy Marsh
Thursday 27th March
Despite my over-ambitious weather prediction for sunshine on our March Nature Walk, it was a clear, chilly morning, which tempted a good number of our members to join us!
We met at Salterns Sailing Club and then walked along the coastal path towards Lymington. This is further along the sea wall that we normally cover from Keyhaven, so it was great to see so much spring activity on a couple of the lagoons, it was noisy and very busy!!
With so much expertise amongst us, it was terrific to share our sightings and help each other identify what we were seeing.
Highlight was seeing our first swallow of the season!
Other sightings included:
Black Tailed Godwit | Common tern | Ringed plover |
Heron | Shelduck | Cormorant |
Spotted Red Shank (this was an interesting debate vs our usual Red Shank!) | Egret | Teal |
Spoonbill | Wigeon | Greenshank |
Gadwall | Lapwing | Common Sandpiper |
Tufted duck | Shoveler | Turnstone |
Little grebe | Avocet | Curlew |
Our next Nature Walk will be on Wednesday 23rd April meeting at 10am on the bridge opposite Lucerne Road in Milford. We will head into the Lower Pleasure Grounds
Do come and join us, it’s a great way of meeting other members and sharing of knowledge of the local area, flora and fauna
I am going to set up a WhatsApp group for those who like to join the walks so we can more easily communicate details – details to follow
Regards
Gill Watson
